Area
Maxwell Farms Regional Park is on the northwest side of Sonoma, between Highway 12 and Sonoma Creek. To a passerby, this park might seem like a traditional park, with sports fields, a playground, skate park, tennis courts, picnic sites, and a Boys and Girls Club. However, Maxwell Farms also features 40 acres of riparian backcountry with lovely trails shaded by giant bay and oak trees and access to the creek.
The park’s trails are virtually level, offering an easy stroll through mature trees, meadows, and the remnants of the historic orchard. The Maxwell family farmed this property for 100 years until the late1960s, planting plum and apricot trees that still produce fruit.
Paved, wheelchair-accessible trails as well as accessible playgrounds and picnic areas.
Located inside Maxwell Farms is Macdougald Skateboard Park, a project built through local grants and donations. The city of Sonoma manages the skateboard park. For more information, contact the city at (707) 938-3681. Skaters must wear helmets, and bikes are not allowed.
$7 per vehicle for day use.
The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset.
Permitted on leash no longer than 6' in length. License required.
Alcohol not allowed in park without a group picnic area reservation.
Also located inside the park is the Valley of the Moon Boys and Girls Club, which serves Sonoma Valley children. Activities include sports, computer skills, tutoring and art. This facility also was built with local grants and donations and is managed by the Boys & Girls Club, which can be reached at (707) 938-8544.
