The peninsula gardens were added by the Aulls in 1929. The Large Peninsula offers a relaxing view across Wiles Creek, of the Front Lawn.
"The important thing is to keep the succession of flowers throughout the year and to have the garden blend into the forest, nurturing the illusion of indistinct boundaries between the two," Marie said in 1986. "The emphasis is on the vegetation of this region, using native species wherever possible."
Marie's sustainable gardening philosophy was ahead of it's time, and is the foundation for maintaining her nearly century old garden.
