Description

At the center of the Refuge parking lot is an area planted with several native plants. We call this area a "bioswale," which means that it acts like a natural filter, cleaning rainwater before it re-enters the Refuge's wetlands, creeks, and the Tualatin River. Check out the interpretive panel at the Visitor Center end of the bioswale to get more of the story of how wetlands work in an urban environment.
